Tuning a Nagoya UT-72 for GMRS. I have a UT-72 which I originally bought for my MURS radios. I see now there is a UT-72G, but wanted to see about trimming mine to make it match the frequencies closer. On GMRS 15 simplex I'm getting a 1.01 SWR and on the +5 repeater offset it's 1.81. Yes, the Nagoya UT-72G antenna came with a permanent 10' cable, and is in the house. The LMR-400 are jumpers from duplexer to radios. Could be the antenna, radios being too close causing desencing sounds possible too. We actually had a test yesterday. Question on the Nagoya UT-72G Mobile Antenna. I got a look at one and the whip screws to the top of a 4-sided block. The cable looks permanently attached to one of the block sides. But I'm wondering if the block, cable and whip can together be unscrewed from the magnet and screwed into some other hard-mount?. Skechers kohl

It is actually a magnet mount antenna but I removed it from the magnet and used a stainless corner brace from Home Depot. I'm glad they come as a 4 pack because it took 3 trys to get all the bends right to get it to fit nice under the cowl.I tested 2 different Nagoya UT72 antennas which are supposed to work great with MURS (~152-155mhz.) These are 1/4 wave at VHF, coil loaded at the base and about 20" tall. I measured both antennas below 1.5 SWR and there were no apparent problems with the coax.
